About

Hey, it's Sarah and Georgia.
We are Girl Scouts and this is our Silver Award Project. We are in Troop 5205 of the Marina Service Unit. A Girl Scout’s Silver Award is supposed to be a lasting project done by one to four girls that is done on a topic that matters to them. Your Silver Award is completed when you are a cadette and you must spend a minimum of 50 hours on your project. We have both been in Girl Scouts for eight years and it has taught us many valuable lessons about teamwork and helping our community.
When deciding what we were doing for our Silver Award Project, we listed topics that mattered to us. A commonality was girl empowerment and the importance of girls feeling confident in middle school. We both had our own agenda for the project but felt as if in working together, we could have a stronger impact on the audience we are trying to reach.
Sarah --- Fashion has always played a huge role in my life. While I have never picked up a sewing needle, I have been doodling clothing sketches since elementary school. When hearing about the silver award, I knew I wanted to deal with middle school fashion. Throughout middle school, I saw many girls dressing the same. Mostly decked out in popular, mainstream brands. No one felt very original or empowered by what they were wearing. But by the end of middle school, I started to see a difference in some girls. They started to find their style and dress in what made them feel confident. My goal is to show ALL girls that they should dress the way they want to, not just how every girl dresses. I want to share the message, that with finding your style, your self confidence will follow.
Georgia --- Approaching the Silver Award, I had many topics I could see doing my project on. However, in the beginning, I was struggling to make time for my Silver Award on top of school. I then realized that balancing school and extracurriculars was something that is an important skill to have, especially going into middle school. We can often become so obsessed with getting "that grade" on the essay or passing that exam, that we forget to make time for ourselves. While school is very important, we need a balance. I think that we are often taught to “just keep it together“ and that can be damaging. Girls who have healthy ways to relieve their stress are more confident and more successful in school because their mind isn’t overloaded. It is important to have ways to relieve stress and to have outlets for us to have a break from school or whatever stressors we are facing. In our Silver Award, I delve into stress relievers and the positive benefits of them on our mind and body.
